Not sure if you know this about me but I was one of the first to take the 14 Stories Gay Wedding Institute course online when it launched in 2011. Bernadette Coveney Smith is highly respected in the industry on the subject of gay weddings and so when she launched this course I jumped on it! Though the webinar format was better than no course at all, I inquired shortly after if she would be interested in bringing her Gay Wedding course to Toronto and she was! Since then I’ve had her here to teach the course in 2012 at the Ontario Science Centre, 2013 at The Mississaugua Golf & Country Club, and this year, 2014 at The Estates of Sunnybrook. Each year we are growing with approximately 15-20 wedding and event professionals attending to learn how their business can be better advocates for LGBT couples. I am always so proud to sit down each year with a different group to hear about their experiences, their questions and be there with them on the day of the course. As the organizer for this course I end up sitting in each year and STILL find something new to takeaway from it.
The major takeaway for me this year was the Anti-Discrimination Policy. I want ALL couples planning their wedding to know the following about me, Holly Matrimony, as well as all of my other coordinators and assistants.
