Changing it up a bit today! I realized that I was seeing a certain nail shape appear a LOT on TV (Lorde, Beyonce, Ke$ha etc) and in my day to day routine so I asked a good friend of mine, ‘the creation of beauty is art’ blogger Shannon Boyce, about what the heck it was and was it a ‘thing’! She explains the trend below. Have a fashion question? Let us know and we will have Shannon back to help us figure it out!
You’ve probably noticed more than a few of your favourite celebrities rocking stiletto nails lately. (Also known as pointed or dagger nails…or pretty much anything that means super sharp!) These nails are without question the new normal for the world’s biggest pop starlets. From Ke$ha and Lorde to Rihanna and Miley, you can’t turn on the TV or flip through a magazine without catching a glimpse of this bold nail trend.
Gone are the days of simple, polished, square tipped nails. Drama is definitely in! Yes, stiletto nails are quickly becoming more and more popular amongst celebrities and regular people, alike. So, exactly what are stiletto nails? Just picture your nails coming to a sharp point! They can be super long or a little bit shorter, depending on what you like best. Stiletto nails get their name because of their resemblance to the sky-high heels. Just like the shoe, these nails always manage to stand out.
There are tons of ways that you wear this nail trend. Light colours, dark colours, metallic shades, and even nail decals are all great options. You can get as creative as you like. It all depends on your own personal preferences – and what big event you’ve got to show them off at!
Are you ready to channel your inner Ke$ha? There are a few things you’ll need to consider. First thing is first: are you comfortable wearing fake nails? While it is possible to shape your own nails into that stiletto point, it can be pretty difficult (and time consuming!) to grow your nails long enough. Fake nails are a much more convenient option.
Something else to think about is your day-to-day lifestyle. If you work with your hands a lot, this nail trend probably won’t work well for you. Just think about it. It will be trickier to remove your contacts, type on your smart phone or computer, or even do manual labour. These high-maintenance nails may look great, but remember, they require a lot of upkeep.
Now that you know what stiletto nails are – and how popular they’ve become – it’s time to ask yourself one question: are they right for you? Whether you’re thinking about exciting nail art for your big day or just want to try something different, give your nails some thought! Stilettos may be the perfect way to stand out from the crowd.
What do you think of stiletto nails? Are they a hot new trend or something to be skipped?
