We all know those friends and family members who refuse to put down their phones even on the wedding day so if you know they will be posting and sharing content you might as well encourage them to tag them with a unique hashtag so that you can find them more easily after the wedding. When you are choosing your wedding hashtag you are going to have to get more creative than initials or date stamps as the likelihood of another couple marrying will also be tempted to choose something similar. You want the hashtag to be something that people can easily remember so they can use it and get it right so couples tend to choose their initials and date to marry i.e. D (rew) and S(haun) 2014 was the hashtag for one of our March weddings which was amazing. There were over 50 photos shared by their guests under this wedding hashtag but when we went to check the hashtag after the wedding we saw that there were two other couples at least trying to use the same one for their wedding. Not a big deal but if the hashtag is quite active, it will be difficult to sort which photos belong to which wedding. Kinda defeats the purpose of organizing the posts right?
Suggestion? No intials, no dates! Every wedding has these things in common and therefore are more likely to be used by other couples. I highly recommend doing a search when thinking about some of the hashtags you are considering. Is there activity already on it? If so, consider another one. Remember hashtags cannot have symbols in them. Try and remove any commonly used language surrounding a wedding to increase the chances of your hashtag remaining safe from other couples. Most smartphones have a memory or a recall that happens once you’ve used a hashtag the first time so this helps if the hashtag you choose is a little less predictable.
Are you going to use a hashtag on your wedding day? If so, share it with us! How did you select yours?
